Book brief summary
Heartbreak House
"Heartbreak House" is one of the Show's "visiting cards", the witty and subtle tragicomedy of the morals of British secular society after the First World War, to which the author was inspired, in his own words, by Chekhov's dramaturgy.
The action takes place on a September evening in an English provincial house that resembles a ship in shape, for its owner, a gray-haired old man, captain Châtover, sailed the whole life through the seas. His daughter Hesion invited Ellie, her father and Mengen, to upset her marriage, because she does not want the girl to marry an unloved man because of the money and gratitude she feels for him because Mengen once helped her father avoid complete ruin.
